The 2018 Toyota 4Runner comes with powerful off road capabilities. Though it has been around for many years now, there is a rumor that production will stop in next couple years. A new model, based on a different Toyota platform, will be released which will made it larger and bigger, but not with the off-road powers which is very much present in this vehicle. Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder should be main rivals to the restyled 2018 4Runner.
2018 Toyota 4Runner
The exteriors are surprisingly aggressively styled which is not typical Toyota that is known for producing sober and simple looking cars. Probably they want the users to feel comfortable when seated in the high end model. You can get that rugged off-road capability and will be built on the same platform as that of the Fortuner which can make it on the styling of the RAV4, but bigger.
There will be three standard trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium and Limited with luxury equipment. This Toyota model will also be available with TRD Pro package which means that this 4Runner should get tuned front springs and Bilstein shocks with rear remote reservoirs. For better look it will feature sporty front grille, special shift knob, black 17-inch alloy wheels and special decals.
There is no official word on the interiors of the 2018 Toyota 4Runner and we feel that is most likely going to remain the same. The cabin space is sufficient and the car maker might do what is necessary to meet the expectations of the users. You can see some optional digital display dash and high-end media system in an otherwise generic space inside. Third row seat will be available on SR5 and Limited trim levels and it should be able to split / fold in 50 / 50 ratio. Air conditioning for rear seats will be standard for all models.
2018 4Runner engine specs
Under the hood of the new 2018 4Runner will be old, reliable 4.0-liter V6 powerplant, inherited from its predecessor. Paired with 5-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 278 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. They come with a decent power output and they are reliable. However, the existing 4.0 liter can be switched with a new 3.5 liter V6 that produces 300 BHP and gives a decent gas mileage. There is no official work on the V8 engine and most likely might not be expected to come in this variant. Three drivetrain choices will be available: 2WD (2-wheel drive) and 4WD (4-wheel drive) in part- and full-time version.
It comes as no surprise that car manufacturers are looking to produce smaller engines which can give out better mileage. Toyota does not disappoint on that front and hence are offering a small turbocharged engine option. Though the new TRD Pro comes with the same power train, the vehicle has a slightly different overall design and redesigned suspension.
2018 Toyota 4Runner price and release date
The news sources feel that Toyota is really in no rush to release the new 2018 4Runner because of its immense success. It is safe to say that you might not see anything happening till the end of 2017. However, some insiders feel that the car maker might add some spice to the competition by releasing brand new model during 2019.
For that, we will have to only wait and see. The pricing of the redesigned 2018 Toyota 4Runner is most likely going to remain the same with the base model at around $36,000. Supposing the car maker releases a hybrid version, it can be significantly more expensive. That depends on how the company views the completion and the market situation during the time of its distribution.
